Mold Vent Cleaning
Every injection mold relies on vents to let trapped air and process gases escape as the cavity fills.
Over time, those same vents accumulate the byproducts of that escaping gas, resin volatiles, additive residue, and fine carbon deposits, until the vent narrows or closes entirely.
Once that happens, trapped gas has nowhere to go, and it shows up in the molded part as burn marks, short shots, and surface defects that no amount of process tuning can fully resolve.
Why Vents Get Blocked
Vents are cut to extremely narrow tolerances, often only a few hundredths of a millimeter deep, specifically so they let gas escape without letting plastic through.
That same narrow geometry makes them highly sensitive to buildup. Every cycle deposits a small amount of gas residue along the vent surface, and because the channel is so shallow, it doesn’t take much accumulation before flow is restricted.
Resins with higher volatile content, higher processing temperatures, and longer runs between cleanings all accelerate the process.

Our Vent Cleaning Process
Inspection and mapping Each mold is inspected to identify which vents are affected and to what degree, since blockage is rarely uniform across every vent or every cavity.
Non-abrasive gas deposit removal We use non-abrasive chemical and mechanical methods developed for narrow-tolerance features, clearing gas residue and carbon deposits from the vent channel without widening, deepening, or otherwise altering its original dimensions.
Thermal pyrolysis for heavy deposits For vents with heavy carbon buildup that mechanical or chemical cleaning alone cannot fully resolve, we use a pyrolytic oven to remove deposits without affecting the base metal’s structure or dimensional accuracy.
Verification Cleaned vents are checked to confirm the original geometry has been restored and preserved, since a vent cleaned to the wrong dimension can be as problematic as one that stays blocked.
